College Writing Made Simple 3

College Writing Made Simple 3 is designed to help you learn the steps in writing an academic essay.  You will look closely at poverty as you research and develop a cause and effect essay.

Course Syllabus

You will learn about summary writing and how to use direct quotations.  But most important, you will learn how to use English to express your ideas and opinions.
If you are an intermediate, non-native speakers of English planning to attend a university in the United States and need to master academic reading and writing skills, then this course is for you.

Lessons include short video presentations, authentic reading passages, downloadable handouts, interactive quizzes, and graded assignments.


Course Overview


While there are many concepts we can introduce in a college writing course, we have chosen to focus on the following:

  • Learning the steps in academic writing
  • Using in-text citations
  • Distinguishing the difference between facts and myths
  • Building cohesion and coherence
  • Understanding and using effective academic language
  • Using gerunds and infinitives to express ideas
  • Understanding and using prepositional collocations to express causes and effects
  • Developing a five-paragraph essay

What are the Lessons Like?

College Writing Made Simple takes advantage of the short video to instruct students on key points.  Videos include many examples on essay organization, how to build effective arguments, and how to understand academic reading passages.

Each lesson includes a short video, a reading passage, downloadable handouts, interactive quizzes, and the opportunity to ask questions to the teacher.

Does the Teacher Grade My Essays?

Yes.  At the end of each course, the student writes an essay on the course topic.  The essay is uploaded for the teacher to evaluate. After the teacher grades the essay, the student receives comments and suggestions for revisions.

How Long Do I Have to Take Each Course?

A typical course takes four weeks to complete.  However if you need longer, you may access the course for up to three months.
