An infinitive is the word to plus the base form of a verb. Like a gerund, it focuses on the action or state of a person, place, or thing. Infinitives can be a noun, adjective, or an adverb. In sentences we can use infinitives as a subject, a direct object, a subject complement, an adjective or an adverb.
